The teens (ages 11 to 18) just might be one of the most valuable aspects of
family practice. The transition into young adulthood isn't always the easiest
of times. Family practice provides teens with the comfort of a physician that
they've learned to know and trust, without the discomfort of going to "that baby
doctor."
From acne to colds and flu to the trials of puberty, your family physician
can be a valuable asset to your teen-aged children.
There are also immunizations that need to be considered at the 11 to 12-year
old assessment. The meningococcal vaccine is often required for young adults
entering college. The annual recommended childhood and adolescent immunization
schedule of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Advisory Committee on Immunization
Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy
of Family Physicians is issued for 2006.
